Dental Practices

Issues with hospitals

At SmileMD, we understand the significant challenges dental practices face when relying on hospitals for pediatric dental surgeries. Here are some of the common issues:

Long Wait Times:

Hospitals often have extended wait times for scheduling pediatric dental surgeries, ranging from 6 to 18 months. In some cases, hospitals may not even schedule these procedures, leaving young patients without timely care.

Unfamiliar Setting:

Dentists prefer to perform surgeries in their own office, where they are familiar with the tools, staff, and environment. Working in an unfamiliar hospital setting can be stressful and less efficient.

Transportation Challenges:

Many patients struggle with transportation, especially when hospitals are located far from their homes. This can lead to missed appointments and additional stress for families.

SmileMD is the solution

SmileMD offers a solution by bringing high-quality, in-office sedation services directly to dental practices, eliminating these hospital-related issues and ensuring better access to care for pediatric patients.

Unwavering Commitment to Safety

At SmileMD, safety is our top priority. We adhere strictly to guidelines set by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Our team comes fully equipped with operating room-standard equipment and medications, ensuring the highest level of care. We maintain backups for all critical equipment and supplies, with rigorous tracking and regular maintenance to ensure everything is in perfect working order. Our medications are meticulously tracked, and we follow a standardized approach to every case day, guaranteeing consistency and reliability in our procedures.

With a track record of successfully serving more than 40,000 patients over our 10-year history, you can trust that safety is never compromised with SmileMD.

Smile Days

On every case day, the SmileMD team ensures a seamless and efficient experience for both the dental office and the patients. Our dedicated team consists of a nurse, a paramedic, and an anesthesiologist, who handle every aspect of the day except the surgery itself, which is performed by the dentist.

Patient Intake:

We manage the entire patient intake process, ensuring all necessary information is gathered and preparations are made for the procedure.

Sedation:

Our experienced anesthesiologist administers the sedation, supported by the nurse and paramedic, ensuring the highest level of care and safety.

Recovery:

After the procedure, we oversee the patient’s recovery, monitoring them closely until they are ready to go home. Additionally, our nurses perform a 24-hour follow-up call to check on the patient’s condition and address any concerns.

This comprehensive approach makes for an efficient office day, allowing dentists to focus on their work while we take care of the rest. It also provides a comforting and reassuring experience for patients and their families, knowing they are in expert hands from start to finish.

How it works

30 Days Prior to Case Day:
  • Patient Submission: Dental offices submit their patient lists.
  • Pre-Admission Testing: Our pre-admission testing team begins gathering health histories, collecting medical records, and performing an initial doctor review.
3 Days Prior to Case Day:
  • Patient Reminder: Our team contacts patients to remind them of the upcoming procedure.
  • Health Screening: We screen patients for any signs of illness that might affect the procedure.
24 Hours Prior to Case Day:
  • Final Reminder: Our team provides a final reminder and conducts an additional health screening to ensure patients are ready for the procedure.
On the Smile Day:
  • Team Arrival: The SmileMD team arrives at the dental office with all necessary equipment and medications.
  • Patient Intake: We manage patient intake, ensuring all necessary information is gathered and preparations are made.
  • Sedation and Procedure: Our anesthesiologist administers sedation with the support of the nurse and paramedic, while the dentist and their staff perform the surgery.
  • Recovery: We oversee the patient’s recovery, monitoring them closely until they are ready to go home.
1 Day After the Procedure:
  • Follow-Up Check-In: Our team of nurses conducts a follow-up check-in with the patient to ensure their recovery is progressing well and to address any concerns.

Benefits to the office

By integrating SmileMD’s services, dental offices can achieve financial stability, maintain operational comfort, and significantly enhance patient care, making it a beneficial partnership for both practitioners and patients.

Financial Benefits

SmileMD offers significant financial advantages to dental office partners. On a typical day, dentists see between 25 and 50 patients. On a SmileMD day, although the number of patients treated is lower (5-7 patients), the reimbursement rates are much higher. This means that your revenue on SmileMD days is at least comparable to, if not better than, traditional office days. By partnering with SmileMD, you can optimize your earnings without compromising on patient care.

Comfort and Convenience

With SmileMD, dentists can stay in their familiar office environment, working with their own staff and using their own equipment. This eliminates the need for traveling to hospitals and adapting to new settings, thereby reducing stress and increasing efficiency. Our model allows you to deliver high-quality care without disrupting your usual workflow.

Enhanced Patient Care

Partnering with SmileMD enables you to improve your patients’ lives by accelerating their access to critical dental care. By providing in-office sedation services, you can address urgent dental needs more promptly, reducing long wait times often associated with hospital-based procedures. This means better health outcomes and higher patient satisfaction as they receive timely and effective care in a comfortable and familiar setting.
